Are you visiting Lofoten on a cruise and looking for something more adventurous than sitting on a bus with 40+ people? If you’re up for a challenge and ready to swap crowded sightseeing for breathtaking views from one of Lofoten’s most iconic peaks, this trip is for you!
Join us for a hiking adventure to Reinebringen in a small group of max 8 people. A steep climb, but the reward? Unbeatable panoramic views over Reine and the fjords below. 🚢🏔️
Ready to make the most of your time in Lofoten? Let’s go!
Reinebringen is one of the most iconic mountain peaks in Lofoten, towering above the fishing village of Reine.
From the top, you’ll be rewarded with a panoramic view of Reine, Sakrisøy, Hamnøy, and the surrounding fjords, making it one of the most photographed spots in Norway.
At 448 meters above sea level, the hike may seem short, but don’t let that fool you—it’s a steep climb. Thanks to the Sherpa-built stone staircase, the trail is well-structured, but the ascent makes for a serious workout.
You’ll be gaining almost 450 meters of elevation in less than a kilometer, so expect burning legs—but also a serious sense of achievement when you reach the top.
Is it worth it? Absolutely. Some say it’s the best view in Lofoten. Others just sit at the top, speechless. Either way, you won’t regret making the effort.
Are you half-convinced that hiking Reinebringen during your cruise stop is the best way to experience Lofoten? Great! Let’s walk you through what to expect.
Your guide will pick you up directly from Gravdal Harbour and drive you straight to Reine to make sure we have enough time to hike Reinebringen.
The Sherpa-built stone staircase takes you all the way to the top. Along the way, you’ll find benches where you can rest, catch your breath, and take in the view, allowing everyone to hike at their own pace.
We’ll take it at a steady rhythm, with plenty of stops for photos, breaks, and just soaking in the scenery.
Even though we keep our groups small (max 8 people), that still means we could end up with eight people at very different fitness levels. Since our guide can’t be in eight places at once, the group will follow the pace of the slowest hiker.
However, if you prefer to go at your own tempo, you’re absolutely welcome to hike up on your own and meet us at the top.
The same applies on the way down—you can stick with the guide, or if you’d rather explore at your own pace, you’re free to descend on your own and take some extra time at the bottom.
Maybe you want to grab a coffee at Bringen Café or wander through Reine village before rejoining the group.
The guide is there to support you, but this hike is your adventure, and you’re welcome to experience it in the way that suits you best.
Once we’ve made it back down, there will still be time for lunch and a few photo stops at Lofoten’s most famous locations.
So yes, you’ll still get that perfect shot of the yellow cabin in Sakrisøy and the classic view of Eliassen rorbuer from the Hamnøy bridge—because no trip to Lofoten is complete without them!
Life happens, we get it! Guests can cancel for free up to 48 hours before departure. After that, you’re stuck with us!
From our side, if the weather becomes too dangerous for hiking—whether due to strong winds or heavy rain—we will adjust the plan and switch to a sightseeing tour instead. Safety always comes first, and we want you to have an enjoyable experience in Lofoten, even if that means exploring from the comfort of the car rather than tackling Reinebringen in unsafe conditions.
We require a minimum of 4 people to run this tour. You can still book the trip if you are a solo traveler, but if nobody else joins the trip, we might need to cancel it. We’ll notify you 24 hours before departure if this happens. Thank you for your understanding!

The hike to Reinebringen is considered challenging, with an elevation gain of 448 meters and a duration of approximately 3–4 hours, including breaks. However, ‘challenging’ is relative to other Lofoten hikes—while the Sherpa-built stone staircase makes the ascent more structured, the steep incline ensures a serious workout. Be prepared for a tough climb that will leave your legs burning, but also reward you with one of the most breathtaking views in Lofoten. You’ll likely return to your ship exhausted but thrilled that you made it to the top!
On request, we can provide hiking poles and an outdoor backpack to carry your essentials comfortably during the hike. Let us know in advance if you’d like to use them!
Our hikes run from May to September, so there won’t be any snow, but weather in Lofoten can change quickly—so it’s best to be prepared!
✔️ Comfortable, layered clothing – The key is to dress in layers so you can adjust to changing temperatures.
✔️ Waterproof & windproof jacket – Lofoten is known for unpredictable weather, and wind at the top can be strong.
✔️ Good shoes – Running shoes with good grip are fine, but avoid sandals or anything with a slippery sole.
✔️ Enough water & snacks – The hike is steep, and you’ll want energy along the way.
✔️ Hiking poles – They help a lot on the descent! We can provide them on request.
✔️ A comfortable backpack – To carry your gear, snacks, and extra layers. If you need one, we can provide it.
Bottom line: Dress for comfort and changing conditions, bring a good attitude, and you’ll be all set for an unforgettable hike! 🚶♂️🏔️
No, you don’t have to be a seasoned hiker—the ascent is not technically difficult, but you should be in decent shape to handle a steep, continuous climb for about an hour.
That said, Reinebringen is not for everyone:
⚠️ If you have an extreme fear of heights, this hike is not for you. The staircase is steep, and the top is exposed.
⚠️ If you have medical conditions that could make a strenuous uphill climb risky, we recommend a different tour.
However, for the vast majority of people, Reinebringen is absolutely doable. If you’re in reasonable shape, can walk up steep stairs for an hour, and your fear of heights is average to none, you’ll be fine.
Will you be tired? Yes.
Sore legs the next day? Probably.
Regret making the effort? Absolutely not. The view from the top is 100% worth it! 🏔️🔥
The hike can be suitable for older children who are physically fit and accustomed to outdoor activities. It’s difficult to set a strict age limit, as there are some incredibly tough 4-year-olds who have trekked to Everest Base Camp and are often more fit than their parents! Ultimately, we trust your judgment in knowing what your child is capable of.
If the weather turns unsafe for hiking—whether due to strong winds, heavy rain, or dangerously slippery conditions—we will cancel the hiking portion and switch to a sightseeing tour instead. Your safety is always our top priority.
However, when it comes to visibility, things get a bit trickier. It’s possible that the top of Reinebringen will be covered in clouds, limiting the view. But in Lofoten, the weather changes quickly, and it’s entirely possible to reach the summit and catch openings in the clouds. That part is pure luck.
If the conditions make the hike dangerous, we won’t take the risk. But if it’s just a question of whether we’ll get the perfect view at the top, we leave that decision up to the group—because sometimes, taking the chance pays off! 🌦️🏔️🚶♂️
When prepping for your hike to Reinebringen, having the right gear can make the difference between a great adventure and an uncomfortable climb. Here’s what you should bring to stay comfortable, safe, and ready for whatever Lofoten throws at us:
✔️ A good, sturdy backpack – Big enough for your essentials and comfortable to carry. (We can provide one if needed!) 🎒
✔️ Extra clothing layers – Lofoten’s weather is unpredictable, so pack an extra mid-layer and a waterproof/windproof jacket. 🌧️
✔️ A dry t-shirt to change into at the top – You’ll likely get sweaty on the way up, and a fresh shirt makes the way down much more comfortable.
✔️ Plenty of water & snacks – Hydration is key, and having high-energy snacks (nuts, dried fruit, energy bars) will help keep you going. 💧🍫
✔️ A camera or a fully charged phone – You’ll definitely want to capture the epic views from the top! 📸
✔️ Any personal medications – If you need them, make sure to bring them along.
If you’re missing anything from this list, let us know ahead of time—we might be able to lend you some gear. We want you to be fully prepped so you can focus on enjoying the adventure! 🏔️🚶♂️😊
You can cancel for free up to 48 hours before departure.
