Are you visiting Lofoten in summer and want to experience it beyond the crowded viewpoints and busy daytime hours? If you enjoy being outdoors, don’t mind a bit of a hike, and like the idea of seeing Lofoten in its best light — whether it’s golden evening light or the midnight sun — then this trip is for you.
Join us for a relaxed, small-group hike (max 8 people) from Svolvær, where we time our route for the best conditions of the day — long evenings, soft light, and, during peak summer, the midnight sun.
The midnight sun in Lofoten usually lasts from around May 27th to July 17th. During this period, the sun never dips below the horizon, and the light stays soft and warm throughout the night.
Outside of these weeks, the days are still extremely long. The sun briefly sets and rises again, creating beautiful sunset and sunrise conditions — often with no people around.
This is why we run these hikes in the evening. It’s simply the best time of day to be out in the mountains — quieter trails, softer light, and views that change constantly depending on the weather and light.
And just to set expectations: we don’t chase a specific viewpoint or summit. We choose the route based on the conditions of the day — weather, light, and how the group is feeling — so we can make the most of the experience.
Are you half-persuaded that hiking under the midnight sun (or in Lofoten’s long summer evenings) should be on your list? Great! Let us tell you a bit more about what to expect.
Your guide will pick you up in Svolvær (or nearby areas) and drive you to the trailhead. We keep the locations flexible and choose the route based on weather, light, and current conditions — because that matters more than sticking to a fixed plan.
This is a proper hike, not just a short walk from the parking lot. You don’t need previous hiking experience, but you should feel comfortable walking on uneven terrain and handling a steady uphill. We’ll take it at a relaxed pace, with plenty of breaks for photos, water, and just taking it all in.
In a small group of up to 8 people, everyone will naturally have a slightly different pace. As always, we adjust to the slowest participant to make sure no one is left behind. This also means that others might need to slow down or wait a bit — so bring an extra layer to stay comfortable during breaks.
If you already know you prefer a faster pace or want something more physically challenging, a private hike might be a better fit 🙂
Depending on the time of the season, we’ll hike either in soft evening light, golden hour, or — during peak summer — under the midnight sun. The light is different every day, and that’s exactly why we don’t rush it.
To give you a rough idea of timing, you can expect around 1 hour of driving to the trailhead, about 2 hours hiking up, 1 hour down, plus around 1 hour on the summit and breaks along the way. The drive back is usually another hour, which means we typically return to Svolvær sometime between 2:00 and 3:00 AM.
That said, this is just a guideline — not something set in stone. The exact timing depends on the chosen route, driving distance, weather conditions, and the pace of the group.
* Our tours run from May 11th to August 31st. The midnight sun period in Lofoten typically lasts from around May 27th to July 17th (give or take a few days). Outside of that window, the days are still very long, and we’ll be hiking in sunset or sunrise conditions, when the sun briefly dips below the horizon before coming back up. In other words — you’ll get great light throughout the whole season, not just during the midnight sun.
We’re a small, family-run local company, run by two people, offering intimate tours for up to 8 guests. We don’t operate big buses where it doesn’t matter if one person joins or not — for us, every single booking counts.
We also run tours in Arctic Norway, on weather-exposed islands where conditions can change quickly and play a major role in whether a tour can safely run. Our goal is to operate sustainably and responsibly, which also means trying to keep our schedule as predictable as possible.
At the same time, we want to be fair and transparent with you. Even when a tour is cancelled, there are still costs on our side (payment processing and booking fees) that are non-refundable for us. This is why our cancellation policy works the way it does.
👉 Life happens, we get it!
Guests can cancel up to 48 hours before departure and receive a refund minus a 5% transaction fee, which covers payment and booking costs we can’t recover.
👉 From our side, if the weather turns too rough to safely run the tour, we may need to cancel it. In that case, we will offer to reschedule, suggest an alternative plan, or issue a full refund.
👉 Life happens on our side too.
Sometimes a car breaks down, a guide gets sick, or we’re unable to reach the pick-up point due to a road closure, accident, or closed bridge. If the tour is cancelled for these operational reasons, we will of course offer a full refund.
👉 We require a minimum of 4 participants to run this tour. You can still book as a solo traveler, but if nobody else joins, we may need to cancel the tour. We’ll notify you at least 12 hours before departure, and you will receive a full refund.
⚠️ If you’re not able to join the tour because your flight was cancelled, roads were closed, you got sick, or something similar happened — we completely understand. We’re happy to provide any paperwork you need for your travel insurance. Please note that these situations are not covered by our cancellation policy and should be claimed through your insurance (make sure it includes trip interruption or cancellation coverage).
Thank you for your understanding and for supporting a small local business ❤️

This is a moderate hike by Lofoten standards. Expect uneven terrain, a steady uphill, and a total duration of around 4 hours including breaks.
You don’t need previous hiking experience, but you should be reasonably fit and comfortable walking uphill for an extended period. If you’re used to regular walks or occasional hikes, you’ll be fine.
We take it at a relaxed pace with plenty of breaks, but you should expect to feel it in your legs by the end of the hike — in a good way.
We provide hiking poles if needed.
In early or late season, depending on conditions, we may also provide microspikes if the terrain is slippery.
For most summer hikes, you’ll mainly rely on your own hiking shoes and clothing — no technical equipment is required.
We also bring outdoor seats, hot tea or Norwegian berry juice in thermocups, and a small snack to enjoy during the hike.
Layers. Always.
Even in summer, the weather in Lofoten changes quickly. We recommend:
Avoid cotton — once wet, it stays wet.
Bring an extra warm layer for breaks, as you can cool down quickly when we stop.
It’s also a good idea to bring an extra T-shirt in case you get sweaty on the way up, so you can change into something dry at the top.
No, but you should be comfortable with physical activity.
This is not a technical hike, but it’s also not just a short walk from the parking lot. You’ll be walking on uneven terrain and going uphill for a while.
If you’re unsure, feel free to reach out — we’re happy to help you decide if this hike is a good fit.
It depends on the child.
We generally recommend this hike for children aged 10+ who are used to walking and can handle a few hours outdoors.
You know your child best — if they enjoy being active and don’t mind a bit of effort, they’ll likely love it. If not, this might feel like a long day for them.
We always keep a close eye on the forecast.
If conditions are unsafe (strong winds, heavy rain, etc.), we will cancel or reschedule the hike. Safety comes first — always.
If the weather is simply “Lofoten normal” (a bit of wind, some clouds, maybe light rain), the tour will still run. Some of the best light actually happens in slightly mixed conditions.
Of course, the ideal scenario is a clear or partly cloudy sky so we can enjoy the midnight sun. But even if that doesn’t happen, the experience can still be just as memorable.
The weather in Lofoten is extremely local, and some of the best moments happen on days that don’t look perfect on the forecast — when the sun breaks through the clouds, when you get a midnight rainbow, or when sea fog rolls over the mountains.
We recommend bringing:
Optional but useful:
You can cancel for free up to 48 hours before departure.
If the weather doesn’t cooperate, we’ll keep you in the loop and suggest an alternative date, a different route, or offer you a full refund.
