March – October
Lofoten Beach Camp is the biggest campsite in Lofoten. It is situated right on the famous Skagsanden beach, making it a perfect place to enjoy the midnight sun in the summer or the northern lights in the autumn.
Lofoten Beach Camp has a new distinct triangular service building that houses a chilled restaurant/bistro that serves delicious homemade waffles, juicy tacos, or burgers for surfers. Oh yeah, Skagsanden beach is a popular surfing spot. If you are new to surfing, you can sign up for a beginner course, or rent equipment if you know how to surf.
Lofoten Beach Camp is open from March to October. There is no pre-booking system, so first comes, first serves. However, the campsite is spacious and offers 75 spots with electricity for campervans, caravans, motorhomes, and many other spaces without an electrical outlet. Campers can pitch a tent close to the beach.
Lofoten Beach Camp is our favorite campsite in western Lofoten. Honestly, there is not much competition, but it is hard to beat the location on Skagsanden Beach. When we lived in Fredvang, Skagsanden was our favorite place to go for a walk under the midnight sun after a long day at work or scout for the fantastic northern lights when it got dark enough.
We stopped at Lofoten Beach Camp a couple of times when we were traveling in Lofoten in our campervan in the summer of 2022. What we love the most, apart from the location, is the campsite’s chill vibes. The newly built Lofoten Beach Bar building is perfect for hanging out, catching a super fast WiFi, or reading a book in one of the cozy window seats.
The Beach Bar serves breakfast (from 10:00), various sandwiches for lunch (from 12:00) and fish soup, bacalao, burgers, and tacos as main courses from 15:00. We really recommend the Beach tacos with pulled pork which are very reasonably priced in Lofoten standards (169 NOK).
The facilities at the Beach camp are new and clean. We appreciated the private changing area in the showers with enough space for your toiletries and fresh clothes. There is a coin automat in the showers, and for 20 NOK, you will get 6 minutes of hot water.
When Radka’s family was visiting Lofoten in August 2021, Ivar and the boys (16, 17, 19) rented surfboards at the Beach Camp and spent the windy and rainy day in the water. They are all beginner surfers; therefore, the sandy-bottomed Skagsanden beach was a much better choice than rocky Unstad. Even though the waves were a bit chaotic and challenging that day, they all had a lot of fun! Here, you can check the rental prices of surfing equipment and lectures.
