There are several live webcameras located in different parts of Lofoten that offer real-time views of the area.
These live Lofoten webcams can be a great way to check the weather conditions before heading on a hiking trip, see if there is any ocean fog on the northern coast of the islands, find out how long the line is for the Bodø-Moskenes ferry, or keep an eye on bridge closures during extreme weather.
Svolvær is the largest town in the Lofoten Islands, located in the eastern part of the archipelago, about a 2.5-hour drive from Harstad/Narvik Airport in Evenes.
Svolvær boasts the greatest number of hotels, accommodations, restaurants, and activities, making it a natural base for many tourists traveling in Lofoten, especially those relying on public transport.
There are numerous activities to enjoy in Svolvær, such as fishing tours, sailing tours, RIB boat trips, and eagle safaris heading to Trollfjord. Additionally, some spectacular hikes start right from the edge of the town, including the famous Djevelporten & Fløya, Svolværgeita, Tuva, and Tjeldbergtinden.
You can use the webcam pointing to Svolværgeita to check if it’s cloudy before you start your hike.
Henningsvær is a small village located in the eastern part of Lofoten. With a population of approximately 500 people, Henningsvær is a tight-knit community that is known for its location on several islands and a Instagram famous football field.
Apart from the football field, Henningsvær boasts some of the best climbing in Lofoten, particularly Presten – the majestic 400-meter granite massif that rises straight up from the ocean. If climbing isn’t your preference, consider hiking up to Festvågtinden to enjoy a beautiful view of the islands surrounding Henningsvær.
The Reinefjorden area in the western part of the Lofoten Islands is home to several charming fishing villages, namely Reine, Sakrisøy, and Hamnøy.
However, people often refer to all the villages in Reinefjorden as Reine.
There are no webcams in Reine, but you will find two webcams overlooking the Eliassen Rorbuer resort on Hamnøy, which provide a good overview of the weather conditions in Reinefjorden.
Sørvågen is the largest village on Moskenesøya Island. It is situated between the ferry terminal in Moskenes and the slightly more famous fishing village of Å.
Serving as a southern entrance to Lofotodden National Park, Sørvågen is a starting point for trails to Munken, Merraflestinden, Herrmandalstinden, Tindstinden, and other stunning hikes.
The live webcam provides a lovely overview of the harbor area in Sørvågen and the majestic mountain Støvla, which dominates the Sørvågen landscape.
Webcameras can be useful if you want to check what is the situation at the different ferry terminals in Lofoten. During the summer season, the ferry between Moskenes and Bodø gets often full, so if you want to secure yourself a spot, you should book a ticket in advance (for an aditional fee) or arrive to the ferry terminal well in advance to be sure that you won´t be left behind.
By clicking the pictures from the different ferry terminals, you will be redirected to the webcams from Statens Vegvesen (the Norwegian Road Administration) and you will be able to see how many cars are currently queuing for the ferry.
The islands in Lofoten are connected by tunnels and bridges. However, especially in winter, the weather can become harsh, and there are some bridges that become too dangerous to cross if it is too windy.
There are traffic lights before the bridges that automatically switch to red once the wind reaches dangerous levels (around 25 m/s). Therefore, during particularly stormy days, it can be impossible to travel from one island to another due to bridge closures.
When traveling in Lofoten, you need to keep an eye on the following bridges: Kåkernbrua near Reine, Gimsøybrua near Henningsvær, and Tjeldsundbrua, which you need to cross on your way from Svolvær to Evenes Airport.
